It continued to rain in Dehradun since the early hours of Wednesday. At the same time, an alert of heavy rain has also been issued in five districts of the state. The process of opening and closing of roads continues in the hilly areas. Heavy rain warning has also been issued in Haridwar today. In Mussoorie too, rain continued from Tuesday night till Wednesday morning.
Heavy rain alert in five districts of the state:
According to Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Centre, there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in the state today. Orange alert has been issued for heavy rainfall especially in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Chamoli. In other districts too, there are chances of intense showers with thunder and lightning.
Heavy rain warning issued in Haridwar:
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Haridwar on Wednesday. The department has appealed to the citizens to avoid going out without any urgent work.
People in the submergence area and coastal areas have been advised to move to safer places, advising them to be vigilant. Citizens have been asked to stay away from storm drains, rivers and gutters etc. The district administration has issued an alert.
The water level of Ganga in Haridwar is below the warning line. At present the water level of Ganga is at 292.45 metres, while the warning mark is at 293 meters and the danger mark is at 294 metres.
Badrinath Highway closed in Kameda on Wednesday as well:
Badrinath Highway is closed in Kameda on Wednesday as well. Action is being taken to open the route. Highway Baba Ashram Nandprayag-Chhinka-Pipalkoti (Near Navodaya Vidyalaya) is closed. Passengers are waiting for the highway to open.
The Rudraprayag Kedarnath-Gaurikund highway is blocked at Tarsali near Phata.
School road washed away due to heavy rains in Roorkee:
On the other hand, due to heavy rains in Roorkee, the road to the school has been washed away. Roorkee and surrounding areas received heavy rainfall from around 2:00 am on Tuesday night. Because of which many areas were flooded. On the other hand, due to heavy rains in Habib Pur Niwada village of Bhagwanpur tehsil area, the road leading to the school has been washed away in the strong current of water.
Due to which the traffic has come to a complete standstill. School going students stood on the bank waiting for the water to recede. On the other hand, in Roorkee city, the areas where the water level had decreased and the problem of water-logging has arisen.
Gangotri-Yamunotri highway blocked:
The Gangotri National Highway in Uttarkashi has been blocked due to debris at Laldhang, Helgu Gad. Earlier the highway was also closed at Maneri Dam and Bandarkot, which was made smooth.
Yamunotri National Highway opened for only one hour on Tuesday evening after about 85 hours. After this, the highway was again blocked due to debris and stones coming from the hill near Dabarkot.
The road has been blocked near the highway Silkyara. Due to rain in the surrounding areas including the district headquarters, the work of opening the highway has not started yet.
12 link roads are closed in Tehri. Power supply is interrupted in five villages of Bhilangana block. The water level of Tehri lake is 808 metres.
All schools up to class 12 closed today in Champawat and Bageshwar:
In view of the heavy rain alert, a holiday has been declared on July 26 in all schools and Anganwadi centers in Champawat and Bageshwar districts up to class 12.
140 PMGSY roads closed in rural areas:
Dehradun Due to heavy rains, 140 roads covered under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in rural areas of the state are closed. This information was given in the departmental review meeting chaired by Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi.
Of these roads, 109 belong to Garhwal division and the rest to Kumaon division. The minister instructed the officials that these roads should be opened without delay, so that the difficulties faced by the villagers in their movement could be removed.
He also asked to regularly send the report of the damage caused to the roads etc. in the rural areas by the disaster in the form of disaster control. Minister Joshi also directed that the remaining construction works of PMGSY roads should be expedited.
Along with this, the officers were also directed to provide compensation to the concerned villagers for the land acquired for road construction in this scheme.
