Chief Minister meets Union Road Transport Minister in New Delhi.

A request was made to approve the proposal of Rs 615.48 crore under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund and to declare Rishikesh-Bhaniawala State Highway as National Highway along with 06 state roads of the state.

Chief Minister Shri Tirath Singh Rawat met Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Micro, Small and Medium Industries Shri Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. During the meeting, various issues of the state were discussed between the two.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister requested the Union Minister Shri Gadkari to approve 42 proposals of Rs.615.48 crore pending in the Government of India under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).

The Chief Minister said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has given in-principle approval to declare 06 state routes as National Highways. As per the requirement of the Government of India, the desired proposal was made available to the Government of India by the State Government from time to time. He requested to notify these 06 State Highways as National Highways at the earliest. These include Khairna-Ranikhet, 34 km., Buakhal-Devprayag, 49 km., Devprayag-Gaza-Gulf, 70 km. Biharigarh-Roshanabad, 33 kms. Laxmanjhula-Dugadda-Nainidanda-Mohan-Ranikhet, 274 kms. Are included.

Chief Minister Shri Tirath said that Rishikesh-Bhaniyawala motorway is important for the devotees/tourists going to the world famous Char Dhams (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri) of the state due to the short link route. The important Jolly Grant airport of the state is also located between Rishikesh-Bhaniyawala. There is traffic between Dehradun-Rishikesh via state route number-24. This route being 2 lanes is not sufficient in view of heavy traffic density. With the widening of this part, the access of the four Dhams to Jolly Grant Airport will be very easy. Due to not being notified as a National Highway, this route is not being included in the schemes of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Keeping in view its immense importance, he requested Union Minister Shri Gadkari to declare it as a National Highway.

Union Minister for National Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari said that after considering all the demands, a suitable solution will be found. In view of the convenience of the devotees in the four Dhams of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, the Central Government will provide all possible help. He said that the problems pointed out by the Chief Minister would be resolved soon in the interest of the state.
