Many ministers are in favor of lockdown in the state given the situation.

In view of the ever increasing cases of Covid infection, a proposed cabinet meeting on Monday may decide on conditional lockdown in the state. Many ministers are in favor of lockdown in the state given the situation. However, the picture is not yet clear from the level of the Chief Minister.

The government has already given a signal to take a tough stance in the war against Covid infection by limiting the number of people to 50 in Corona curfew and marriage ceremony in Dehradun on Sunday. Till now the government was trying to prevent the spread of infection through night curfew etc. by following the rules of micro containment zone and social distance. But now things are only getting worse. More than 4000 cases are being reported daily in the state for the last few days.

Some ministers insisted on the lockdown:
In view of this, now some ministers have started insisting on lockdown. Forest and AYUSH Minister Harak Singh is openly advocating this. In such a situation, it can be decided on Monday from the level of the government in the proposed cabinet meeting.

According to sources, if the decision on the lockdown is not taken, the government may consider implementing the Corona curfew at other places. Along with this, other strict measures can be adopted to break the Covid chain.

Till now, the government has adopted similar measures like closing the educational institutions, closing the markets till two o’clock in the day. Dehradun and other cities of the state have a high floating population. In view of this, the lockdown is being talked about. There is definitely talk of the Chief Minister adopting the sternest approach.

The situation in the state is continuously deteriorating. Lockdown has become necessary as corona infection increases. I have also spoken to other ministers and there is agreement on their part. In Dehradun, people are not even able to get a place in the hospitals. There is a cabinet on Monday and lockdown can be considered.
-Harak Singh, Minister of Forests and AYUSH
