Complete preparation has been done by the Uttarakhand Sheep and Wool Research Development Board. For this, eight Australian marino sheep have been brought to Pashulok Rishikesh from Kopadhar Ghansali, a sheep breeding center.
The goal is to perform artificial insemination of about three thousand sheep. It is also important that this experiment is going to be done in the field for the first time in the country. So far, artificial insemination of the sheep has been done in the research institute and farm. Whereas in Uttarakhand, this facility will be provided at the cattle rancher’s house in the field.
Till now, cattle and buffaloes were artificial insemination on behalf of Animal Husbandry Department. Now, in order to improve the breed of sheep in the country, preparations are being made for artificial insemination of sheep for the first time. For this, eight male sheep out of 240 Australian Marino sheep kept at Sheep Breeding Center in Ghoddhar (Ghansali) of Tehri Garhwal District have been brought to Sheep Goat Artificial Insemination Center in Pashulok by Uttarakhand Sheep and Wool Research Development Board.
Dr. Amit Arora, in-charge of Sheep Goat Artificial Insemination Center, said that the straws of eight male sheep are being extracted and their straw is being prepared. Some doctors have come from the Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute Avikanagar District Tank Rajasthan for training of artificial insemination of sheep, some more doctors will be sent for training.
He said that currently a target has been set to perform artificial insemination of three thousand sheep. For this, consent has been given by sheep farmers. Sheep have also been selected by the department under this program. In this, the sheep who foster in the winter from Chirbatia, Uttarkashi and other places will be artificial insemination of their sheep in the plains.
AI work will be done from next week
After selecting the sheep from the Uttarakhand Sheep and Wool Research Development Board, they are being given nutritious diet. Due to which the nutritional level of the sheep can increase. Dr. Amit Arora said that a one-time sperm of a sheep can be established in 15 to 20 female sheep. Artificial insemination (AI) of the sheep will be done from next week.
Laparoscopic surgery will be used in the second phase:
Dr. Amit Arora said that in the second phase, artificial insemination in sheep will be done using laparoscopic surgery method. For which doctors are taking training.

Artificial insemination of sheep will be done by the Uttarakhand Sheep and Wool Research Development Board to improve the breed of sheep. This will be the first artificial insemination program of sheep in the field in the country. While this program will improve the breed of sheep, the wool production capacity will also increase. All preparations have been completed. Artificial insemination in sheep will be started from next week.
