With a view to implementing Uniform Civil Code in the state, the expert committee which is preparing its draft is going to prominently include this suggestion in the draft. Along with this, many other points like creating an effective regulation act for live-in relationships and making provisions to ban the practice of polygamy will also be a part of the draft.
The committee may soon submit this draft to the government. After study, it will be passed by the Assembly in the form of a bill. For this, the assembly session will be called soon. According to sources in the Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has talked to Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan about this. On the other hand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said while talking to the media on Saturday that the draft will be received from the expert committee soon, its work is in the final stage. As soon as we receive the draft, we will take further action without any delay.
More than 80 meetings, 2.30 lakh suggestions
As soon as he assumed power after winning the assembly elections, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami constituted an expert committee under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Seni), in which four members were included, to draft a Uniform Civil Code on 27 May 2022. . Later the member secretary was also included in it. During the tenure of about 15 months of the Expert Committee, more than 80 meetings have been held so far and the committee has received more than 2.30 lakh suggestions.

The committee met representatives of all religions, communities and tribes of the state through meetings. Suggestions were taken from local residents by visiting different parts of the state. Along with all the political parties of the state, he also interacted with the migrant Uttarakhandis in New Delhi on this subject. The committee was to submit the draft of the Uniform Civil Code by June this year, but it could not happen. After this, the government extended the tenure of the committee for the third time by four months.

Points related to amendments in existing legal provisions, equal rights for followers of all religions, divorce, inheritance, inheritance, adoption, compliance with local and tribal traditions and customs and personal freedom.
