The High Court took cognizance of the abolition of Shivalik Elephant Reserve.

The Nainital High Court has directed the Central Government, the State Government and the State Wildlife Board to file replies within four weeks after hearing a PIL filed in the matter of scrapping the Shivalik Elephant Reserve.

The case was heard before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Alok Kumar Verma. Nearly 80 environmental lovers have written in a letter to the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court that on 24 November 2020, the State Wildlife Board had decided to cancel the Shivalik Elephant Reserve for the expansion of Jollygrant Airport.

The letter said that this is affecting development projects in the state. After the hearing, the bench of the High Court has directed the Central Government, the State Government and the State Wildlife Board to file replies within four weeks.
