The largest runway of Uttarakhand is going to be built at Pantnagar Airport under Udham Singh Nagar district. Construction of a 3000 meter long runway is proposed here. With this, big airplanes will be able to land here. This will also pave the way for it to become an international airport. For this, the government has started acquiring 804 acres of land. Soon, action will be taken to prepare its DPR. A meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu to give compensation for the land being acquired.
There are two airports in the state
At present there are two airports in the state. One of these is Jolly Grant Airport located in Dehradun and the other is Pantnagar Airport. The runway length of Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is 1700 meters while the runway length of Pantnagar Airport is currently 1372 meters.
Uttarakhand’s biggest airport will be built
After construction of 3000 meter runway in Pantnagar Airport, it will become the largest airport of Uttarakhand. On the other hand, the runway of Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is proposed to be expanded by 2500 meters.
804 acres of land will be acquired
Some time ago, the Cabinet had approved the acquisition of 804 acres of land for the purpose of expansion of Pantnagar Airport. This land belongs to Pantnagar University, Agriculture Department, National Highway Authority, Terai Development Authority and Industry Department. Now they have to be compensated. Government departments will be given land in exchange for land, there is a provision to give compensation amount to the remaining others. A national highway is also built through the land to be acquired. It has not been closed yet. It will be closed only after the construction of an alternative route. The process of compensation is being started before the work of expansion of Pantnagar Airport is started.
DPR and master plan is being prepared
Additional Secretary Civil Aviation and CEO UCADA C Ravi Shankar said that Airport Authority of India is preparing its DPR and master plan. He said that soon a meeting related to compensation will be held first at the Secretary level and then at the Chief Secretary level. After this the land acquisition work will be completed.
