Electrical security cannot be ignored in government offices, schools and establishments of the state now. The government has finally reorganized the structure of the electricity security department which was created by dividing Uttarakhand into five zones since the time of united Uttar Pradesh. Now 13 districts have been divided into three categories. After the new structure comes into existence and the posts are filled, the inspection and monitoring of the work and measures of electricity security in the state will be expedited.
Most of the government departments have been amended in the structure in 23 years
It has been more than 23 years since Uttarakhand became a state. In this period, the structures of most of the government departments have been amended or reorganized. The structure of many departments has been reorganized several times. It is a different matter that the important department related to electricity security was ignored for a long time. The departmental structure which was in place since the time of united Uttar Pradesh, was not changed as expected after the formation of a separate Uttarakhand state. According to the old system, Uttarakhand was divided into five zones Roorkee, Dehradun, Haldwani, Gopeshwar and Pithoragarh. After the formation of the state, urbanization took place rapidly. Government buildings have expanded in every district.
Negligence regarding electrical safety system
Industrialization also gained momentum in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun. Even after this, negligence was shown regarding electrical safety system. Most of the posts in the 65-member structure of the department have remained vacant. As a result, there was a sewer treatment plant accident in Chamoli district. If there was adequate arrangement of electrical safety in this plant, the accident could have been prevented. In view of the sewer treatment plant accident on July 20, 2023, the need for reorganization of the Electrical Safety Department was felt. Learning from the accident, now regular checking of electrical safety has been made mandatory in all government buildings, schools and establishments. The implementing agencies associated with the construction work will also have to make mandatory arrangements for electrical safety in buildings and establishments.
15 posts increased as compared to the old structure
The government has also made it mandatory to regularly monitor the system made for electrical safety. Keeping this in mind, now the structure of the electrical safety department has been decided on the basis of districts and not zones. 15 posts have been increased as compared to the old structure. The total number of posts has now become 80.
Categories of districts have been determined in the new structure. Dehradun and Nainital districts have been included in category-one. Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts have been kept in category-two. Remaining districts are in category-three. In this structure, posts of assistant engineer, junior engineer as well as clerical and accountant category have been increased.
