Government’s eye on Chardham Yatra operations during monsoon, CM Dhami tightens screws on officials

admin June 29, 2024

The government is keeping an eye on the smooth operation of Chardham Yatra during monsoon in the state. In line with the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the government has instructed all the districts to keep the alternative routes of Chardham Yatra in good condition. Adequate number of JCBs and personnel should be deployed at sensitive places on these routes. During monsoon in the state, incidents of landslides and damage to roads occur every year on the major routes of the state including the Chardham Yatra route. This disrupts the Chardham Yatra routes. At many places, the situation is such that traffic is badly affected due to breaking of roads and debris in them. Due to this, passengers get stuck on the travel route. The government and administration have to face a lot of trouble in evacuating these passengers. In view of this, alternative routes were identified a few years ago. These are such routes, which are a bit long, but they help the passengers to reach their destination. They are still used by local residents.

More than 50 routes connect to the travel route at different places. However, a longer distance has to be covered through these routes, due to which they are not used for travel. There are more than 50 such routes, which connect to the travel route at different places. In case of damage to the main roads during monsoon, these can be used to keep the traffic smooth. In view of this, the government has written a letter to all the districts and instructed them to mark such alternative routes and keep them in good condition. The objective is that in case of closure of the main roads, these routes can be used to evacuate the passengers safely. For this, the districts have been instructed to deploy adequate number of JCBs, other equipment and personnel on these routes. Secretary Public Works Department Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey says that the districts have been instructed to keep such routes in good condition so that these routes can be used in case the main road is blocked.
