Monsoon rains have started gaining momentum across the state. On Tuesday, a red alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in the entire Kumaon division. During this period, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some places in Nainital, Bageshwar, Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar. At the same time, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in some places in Dehradun, Pauri and Tehri, Haridwar of Garhwal division.

An orange alert has been issued in all four districts regarding this. Heavy rains occurred in many parts of Garhwal and Kumaon apart from the mountainous areas of Dehradun district early Monday morning. In the last 12 hours, the highest rainfall of 222 mm was recorded in Sama of Bageshwar district. Apart from this, 176.3 mm rainfall was recorded in Lohaghat, 145.2 mm in Nainital, 145 mm in Rikhdikhal of Pauri and 96.2 mm in Roshnabad of Haridwar. The Maldevta-Serki village road connecting Dehradun to Tehri is blocked since 9 am due to debris. Many roads have been blocked due to heavy rainfall in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts last night. Due to change in weather, a decrease of three to five degrees Celsius has been recorded in the temperature.

Director of Meteorological Center Bikram Singh said that from Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall can occur in almost all the districts of Kumaon. Which is expected to continue for the next three days. During this time, Orange alert has been issued in four districts including Doon of Garhwal division. This rainfall can be more than normal for the first time after the monsoon became active in Uttarakhand. Less rainfall can occur on July 5 and 6.

Cloud burst in Nainital
The lake city witnessed heavy rains due to cloud burst on Sunday midnight. 96 mm of rain was recorded in one hour. There was no loss of life or property due to the British era drainage system being in working condition. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for three days from Tuesday in five districts of Kumaon except Almora and has appealed to the people to remain alert.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rains suddenly started at 12 o’clock on Sunday night. The speed of rain was so intense that the drains overflowed and the roads were submerged. Debris came in many places on Haldwani road, Kaladhungi and Bhawali road. Due to this, Haldwani-Nainital and Kaladhungi-Nainital road remained blocked for about two hours in the morning. Due to torrential rain, the water level of the lake increased by one feet in one night. People living in sensitive areas have been appealed to be more careful at night.
