There was a huge reduction in the number of Chardham pilgrims due to heavy rains in the past few days due to which the roads were blocked at many places. But now with the opening of the season, Chardham Yatra has started gaining momentum again. About 23 thousand pilgrims have visited in these three days of September. So far in this year’s journey, a total of 38 lakh 17 thousand 924 pilgrims have visited the holy places.
This year, Chardham Yatra started with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham on 22nd April. Right from the beginning of the Yatra, a large number of pilgrims started arriving to visit the Dhams. Chardham Yatra remained at its peak during May, June and mid-July, whereas with the onset of rainy season in July, Chardham Yatra started slowing down.
Landslide disrupts travel
Due to heavy rains in the month of August, the Yatra was disrupted due to landslides at many places on the Chardham Yatra route. Due to this, the number of Chardham pilgrims reduced drastically in August. Even on August 15, the lowest number of 1644 pilgrims reached all the Dhams for darshan, whereas if we talk about the peak period of the Yatra, then more than 60 thousand pilgrims visited Char Dham and Shri Hemkund Sahib every day.
If the weather is clear then the number will increase
The weather has been clear for almost a week now, due to which the Chardham Yatra has gained momentum again. If we look at the figures of the first three days of this month, five thousand pilgrims visited the Dhams on the first day, eight thousand on the second day and on Sunday, the third day, more than ten thousand pilgrims visited the Dhams. If the weather remains clear in the coming days, this number is expected to increase again.
