With a view to better management and systematic operation of other major religious tours and fairs including Chardham in Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand Religious and Pilgrimage Council will soon come into existence in the state. During the review meeting of the winter tour of Chardham, a presentation was given by the Tourism Department regarding the council. The Chief Minister directed that steps should be taken towards the formation of the council as soon as possible. Many tours and fairs are organized in the state throughout the year, but many times the system fails in terms of better management and operation. The reason is that preparations for them are not done on time.

This time there were problems during the Gangotri Yatra in the Chardham Yatra. In view of all this, emphasis was laid on forming such a council and institution in the state, which would conduct the tours and fairs held in the state throughout the year in a systematic manner. In this sequence, steps have been taken towards the formation of Uttarakhand Religious and Pilgrimage Council. Through the presentation, the Chief Minister was told that three committees of the council will be formed.
The council will formulate policies for pilgrimages and fairs
The policy formulation and guidance committee will formulate policies for religious pilgrimages and fairs. It will also provide necessary suggestions and guidance for their smooth, safe and systematic organization. The implementation of policies and guidelines will be ensured by the planning and coordination committee.

It was told that initially the carrying capacity of Chardham has also been assessed. The carrying capacity has been estimated at 17894 for Kedarnath, 15088 for Badrinath, 9016 for Gangotri and 7881 for Yamunotri per day.
