The rainy season is now slowly gaining momentum. In such a situation, the concern of flood and waterlogging has also started to bother. In view of this, the government has now finalized the preparations to deal with any emergency situation.
304 such sensitive places have been identified in all the districts of the state, where there may be a danger of flood and waterlogging. Special monitoring will be done at these places. Along with this, 113 flood security posts have been established in the state with the help of the administration, so that an immediate alert can be issued in case of flood in the rivers.
The speed of the rivers in the state is frightening every time during the rainy season. Now that the clouds are raining heavily, the water level of the rivers has also started increasing. This has increased both the concern and the challenge. To deal with this, flood related preparations have been finalized. In the same sequence, arrangements have been made to inform the Panchayat representatives on mobile phones through flood protection posts in case of flood in the rivers, so that an alert can be issued in the concerned area.
Not only this, flood control rooms have also been set up in all the districts till October 15 and their responsibility has been given to the officers. The most sensitive places in terms of flood and waterlogging have been identified in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Pauri, Uttarkashi districts.
Irrigation department has made tight arrangements for the rainy season: Maharaj
Irrigation Minister Satpal Maharaj reviewed the steps taken by the department to deal with the challenges of the rainy season at the camp office on Subhash Road on Saturday. After the meeting, he said that all the arrangements have been made tight.
A central flood control room has been set up in the premises of Irrigation Section, Dehradun, which will remain active 24 hours a day. A state level nodal officer has been nominated. He said that the departmental flood control in-charge has created a WhatsApp group for the exchange of flood related information.
He informed that sensitive canals under the control of the irrigation department have been cleaned before the monsoon. The water level of the main rivers of the state is being continuously monitored. The reservoirs and dams under the control of the irrigation department are also being monitored. Sirens have been installed to inform the people living downstream of barrages and reservoirs. Chief Engineer of Irrigation Department Subhash Kumar Pandey and other departmental officers were present in the meeting.
