3813 homestay applications cancelled in Uttarakhand; Know how many homestays are running in the state, what are the standards and conditions

admin October 2, 2024

In the homestay scheme run by the Tourism Development Board to provide employment to the local people and better accommodation facilities to the tourists at reasonable prices, 3,813 homestay operators did not follow the standards implemented by the department. The application of homestays not following the standards was cancelled. Actually, in the year 2016, the Tourism Department had started a scheme to provide employment to people by operating homestays under subsidy. For this, one has to apply online on the website of the Tourism Department. Conditions and standards have been kept by the department for the application, which are mandatory.
After this, the District Tourism Development Officer verifies the homestay of the applicant. If the standards are met, the homestay is registered. Currently, 7,663 homestays are operating in 13 districts of the state. Homestays with better arrangements are placed in A, B and C category and later they also get a certificate from the department.

Most homestay applications have been cancelled due to the absence of the building owner. Apart from this, many homestay applications have also been cancelled due to the building being in the name of another person.

Conditions for homestay registration

The homestay should be a fully residential complex and the building owner should live there with his family.

The number of rooms to be rented in the homestay should be maximum six and minimum one.

Each homestay should be airy and well-lit, equipped with toilet and electricity.

The homestay should have fire safety equipment.

The homestay should be registered in the name of the applicant.

There should be adequate space for parking.

Restrictions on the building owner

The building owner will not set up a reception desk and counter in the homestay like a hotel.

The homestay operator will not do any such activity which causes problems to the people around.

Will not spread misleading information about the homestay operator.
The Homestay Operator will not be involved in any type of brokerage.
