The Panchayati Raj Directorate on Wednesday sent the details of the number of posts to the District Magistrates for determining reservation in view of the Panchayat elections proposed next month in the remaining 12 districts of the state except Haridwar. Now reservation for these posts has to be determined in the districts. There are a total of 66420 posts of Gram Pradhan, Gram, Area and District Panchayat members in the three-tier panchayats of these districts, for which direct elections are to be held. 47.32 lakh voters will elect these representatives. The block chief is elected by the elected area panchayat members and the district panchayat president is elected by the elected district panchayat members. Meanwhile, amid the ongoing exercise regarding the panchayat elections, the State Election Commission has also started finalizing the preparations. After receiving information about the reservation of posts in the panchayats, the commission will issue a notification for the panchayat elections.
Reservation proposals finalized today
In view of the process of reservation in panchayats, reservation proposals are being prepared in all 12 districts. These will be finalized on Thursday. Provisional publication of reservation proposals will be done on June 13. After this, objections will be received for two days and then they will be disposed of in the next two days. Final publication of reservation proposals will be done on June 18. These proposals will be made available to the Panchayati Raj Directorate on June 19. On the same day, the Directorate will make them available to the government and the State Election Commission.
33210 women representatives will be elected
In Uttarakhand, 50 percent reservation is fixed for women in three-tier panchayats. Accordingly, 33210 women representatives will be elected in the four posts for which direct elections are to be held.
