In view of the situation arising out of landslide in Joshimath, the State Government is constantly updating the Central Government. In this series, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday and apprised him about the situation in Joshimath and the steps taken by the government. Also requested central assistance to save Joshimath. According to the Chief Minister, the Union Home Minister assured all possible help to the affected people.
Chief Minister Dhami told the Union Home Minister that Joshimath, the winter seat of Badrinath Dham, is important from the point of view of strategic, cultural and tourism. 25 percent of the city’s area is affected by landslides, whose population is 25 thousand. Till now cracks have been seen in 849 buildings. 250 families have been temporarily displaced. Five sites have been identified for rehabilitation. Scientists from eight Central Technical Institutes are engaged in the investigation.
The Chief Minister informed that the government had conducted a terrestrial survey from August 16 to 22 last year by an expert committee. In this the reasons and remedies for landslides were given. This month, after the sequence of cracks in the buildings increased, the expert committee again made some recommendations after conducting a site inspection. On January 8, the cabinet secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office also called a high-level meeting. After this the central teams visited Joshimath.
DM Chamoli, Commissioner Garhwal are camping at Joshimath. The Chief Minister said that after consultation with the Central Technical Institutes, it was initially told that extensive reconstruction would be required in the area.
