A division bench of High Court Chief Justice Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal on Wednesday passed an order to remove Dr. Sunil Joshi, vice-chancellor of Uttarakhand Ayurveda University, terming it against the rules. Dr. Joshi was appointed about five years ago. His term is coming to an end this month.
The bench, after completing the hearing in the matter on June 15, had reserved the verdict. Haridwar resident Vinod Chauhan challenged the appointment of Dr. Joshi to the post of Vice Chancellor in the High Court. He said that Dr. Joshi’s experience on the post of professor is not 10 years. As per UGC rules, at least 10 years of professorial experience is mandatory for the post of Vice-Chancellor. But Dr. Joshi does not have the prescribed qualification for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
Rigging in promotions:
Dr. Joshi has committed financial irregularities by misusing his position. Promotions have also been rigged. By violating government rules, he took decisions against the rules, so he should be removed from the post. After hearing the arguments of all the parties, the court completed the hearing on June 15 and reserved the decision. In its decision on Wednesday, the court quashed the appointment of the vice-chancellor.
