Uttarakhand became a den of cyber thugs, now STF took charge; Road map ready to end crime

admin September 28, 2023

In Uttarakhand, the police is facing double challenge on the cyber crime front. The first challenge is the day-to-day changing tactics of cyber thugs and the second is the lack of resources. The increasing number of pending cases of cyber crime also clearly reflects the lack of resources and training required to arrest the accused. Now STF has prepared a proposal for 50 percent increase in human resources in both the cyber police stations of the state and sent it to the government through the police headquarters. Apart from this, STF is also preparing cyber commandos to crack down on cyber thugs, who are being trained by cyber experts.

Uttarakhand becoming a hub of cyber fraud
On an average, 1600 cases of cyber crime are reported every year in Uttarakhand. Whereas, there are only two cyber police stations to investigate crimes and take action against the accused. First in Dehradun and second in Haldwani. Talking about human resources in cyber police stations, there are 22 sanctioned posts in Dehradun, while only nine are sanctioned in Haldwani. The posts in both the police stations have been sanctioned for the year 2001, whereas, cyber crime is increasing rapidly year by year. The duty of the staff hired to deal with cyber crime cases is also being used to catch criminals with rewards. This is also one of the reasons why cyber crime cases are not resolved quickly.

Avoid cyber fraud like this
Do not click on any unknown link coming through internet media, SMS.
Do not share ATM card password and OTP with anyone.
Nothing is available for free. So get alerted on the free appointment call.
The bank never calls and asks to get KYC done. Be alert if you receive such calls.
Don’t download apps like TeamViewer, AnyDesk on someone’s advice.
Don’t keep your passwords the same on different sites.
Make passwords difficult and change them regularly.

Road map made to end cyber crime
A roadmap has been prepared to deal with cyber frauds. Along with making the general public aware, preparations are being made to take immediate action in case of crime and to unveil the incident as soon as possible. Apart from this, to ensure that the criminal does not get out of the jail easily, the details of the crimes he committed across the country are being ascertained. -Ayush Aggarwal, SSP, STF

STF now took charge
In Uttarakhand, the police is facing shortage of resources due to the day to day changing tactics of cyber thugs. STF sent a proposal to the government to increase the human resources by 50 percent in both the cyber police stations.
If you are a victim of cyber fraud or any other such crime, complain on helpline number 1930.

Economic Offenses Police Station will open
Efforts to open Economic Offenses Police Station intensified: To crack down on cyber thugs, STF has planned to open an Economic Offenses Police Station. The Director General of Police himself has put forward this proposal before Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. 35 to 40 policemen will be deployed in the Economic Offenses Police Station. In cases of economic crimes, the case will be registered in this police station.

Cyber thugs from other states are also involved
Will increase coordination with other states. Cyber fraudsters based in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand and Rajasthan are involved in most of the cyber frauds happening in Uttarakhand. STF SSP Ayush Aggarwal has directed cyber police stations to increase coordination with the concerned states to arrest the accused. To ensure coordination, the Union Home Ministry has constituted the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
