Under Srinagar Municipal Corporation area, elevated road (Marine Drive) will be constructed on the banks of Alaknanda River from Panch Peepal to Sweet Village and Thandi Road from Firing Range Pauri Marg to Medical College Srikot. Apart from becoming a center of attraction for Chardham travelers and tourists, this route will also pave the way for easy transportation for the city residents.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat took a review meeting of the construction works of various motorways under Srinagar assembly constituency on February 8 (Thursday) in the DMMC auditorium in the Secretariat. He took information about the progress regarding the construction of the proposed elevated road from Panch Peepal to Sweet Village in Srinagar, the main stop of the Chardham Yatra, and the proposed cold road from the firing range to Srinagar Medical College.
DPR work of elevated road in final phase
In the meeting, National Highway Authority officials informed that the DPR work of the elevated road is in the final stage. As soon as the DPR is completed, it will be sent to the Central Government for final approval. Officials of Public Works Department Block Srinagar said that the first phase survey of the proposed Thandi Road from Firing Range Pauri Marg to Medical College has been done. As soon as the survey work of this approximately eight kilometer long one and a half lane road is completed, DPR will be prepared and sent to the government. As soon as the DPR is approved, the construction work will be started in the coming financial year.
In the meeting, Cabinet Minister Dr. Rawat also reviewed the progress of construction and widening of motorways under construction as well as asphaltization in Khirsu, Pabau, Paithani, Thalisain areas. He instructed the officials of the Public Works and Forest Department to expeditiously resolve the cases related to forest land transfer. Departmental officials said that the work of construction and widening of most of the motorways under the assembly constituency is in the final stage. Proposals for asphalting of some motor roads have been sent to the government for approval.
Instructions to deploy gangmen for maintenance of roads as before
The Cabinet Minister asked the departmental officers to deploy gangmen for the maintenance of roads as before, and also instructed the officers to make boards of approved roads in the name of martyrs and great personalities of the area. Public Works Department Secretary Pankaj Pandey, Additional Secretary Vineet Kumar, Chief Engineer and Head of Department Ayaz Ahmed along with senior engineers of National Highway Authority and Public Works Department, Executive Engineers of Bajron, Pabau, Srinagar and Khirsu were present in the meeting. The Himalayan Park will be built in Khirsu, which is full of natural beauty. The Forest Department will prepare a park to attract tourists from India and abroad and to maintain the biodiversity. It will be named The Himalayan Park of Khirsu.
Instructions for preparing DPR with the park
Regional MLA and Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, in a meeting with Forest Department officials, gave instructions to prepare the DPR along with the proposal for the park. The departmental officers will present it before the Union Forest Minister, so that the budget for the construction of the park can be sought from the Central Government.
