Former Indian Navy Captain Saurabh Vashishtha was sentenced to death in Qatar. Saurabh got the punishment, but his parents living in Doon suffered him every moment. When Saurabh was released after death sentence, he called his father at 3.30 am on Monday. Knowing the unknown number, Saurabh’s father disconnected the call. When the bell rang again, on receiving it a voice came from the other side, Papa Saurabh is speaking. After 18 months, he was jolted out of his sleep after hearing his son’s voice. The words that came out of his choked throat after hearing his son’s voice were telling as if Saurabh’s father had been released from the death sentence. Doon resident former Captain Saurabh Vashishtha is also among the former Navy officers who reached India after being released from Qatar jail.
Both daughters are also studying in the same school.
After reaching Delhi, the son first informed his father about his release. Saurabh’s parents burst into tears after hearing their son’s voice. There was no limit to his happiness. Saurabh’s father RK Vashishtha is a retired wing commander from the Air Force. Saurabh’s wife works in Qatar and his two daughters are also studying in school there.
The Government of India has started the process of their release.
Let us tell you that eight former officers of the Indian Navy were working for a company named Dehra Global Technology and Consultancy Services in Qatar. All of them were arrested in August 2022. On October 26, 2023, the Qatar court sentenced these former officers to death. His relatives living in India were shocked by this. Demand for his release arose from across the country. After this the Government of India started the process of their release.
Saurabh can reach Doon today
Saurabh’s father RK Vashishtha told that his son has been met by family members living in Delhi. He has provided the phone to Saurabh. Saurabh is in constant touch with the family members on phone. He is expected to reach Doon by late evening on Tuesday. On the other hand, Saurabh’s wife, who works in a company in Qatar, has left to come here.
Credit given to Prime Minister Modi
Saurabh’s father gave credit for his son’s release to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he would not have been released had it not been for the intervention and sustained diplomatic efforts of PM Modi and the Government of India to secure his release. His death sentence was commuted to life in prison following sustained diplomatic intervention and legal assistance from New Delhi.
