Just before the Lok Sabha elections, Mahesh Sharma has given the biggest blow to Congress in Kumaon. Mahesh, who has been the state general secretary of Congress four times, has also been a minister of state in the ND Tiwari government. On Sunday, he joined the BJP along with 57 Panchayat representatives in Dehradun. Mahesh Sharma has taken this big step under the guidance of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami. Mahesh, who was a strong leader of Congress, got the membership of the party by State President Mahendra Bhatt, State General Secretary Organization Ajay Kumar, Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal. Mahesh Sharma says that he is inspired by PM Narendra Modi. Because of Modi, India’s image has improved in the world today. India is being seen as a world leader. He has taken important steps in respecting Hindus. As far as Congress is concerned, the common worker does not get importance there. Those who do not work on the ground are made candidates. This is the reason why he has left Congress and joined BJP.
Strong hold among voters
Mahesh Sharma’s Kaladhungi is gaining a strong hold among the voters in the assembly constituency. He strongly contested the assembly elections from this seat thrice in the years 2012, 2017 and 2022. Fought twice as an independent and once on Congress ticket. Actually, he was unhappy with Congress making Prakash Joshi the candidate from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar seat. There has already been a rivalry between these two. It is also believed that Mahesh Sharma was not taken into confidence in deciding Joshi as the candidate. Even Congress leaders are surprised by this decision of Mahesh Sharma just before the Lok Sabha elections. Because Kaladhungi assembly seat already has a strong stronghold of MLA Banshidhar Bhagat. With Sharma leaving Congress, BJP has started looking stronger on this seat. Whereas Congress candidate Prakash Joshi comes from this assembly constituency.
Close to Yashpal for four decades, persuasion had no effect
Mahesh Sharma has been in Congress since 1980. Has been a grassroots level worker. He has been close to Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya for a long time. Has also played the role of strategist in Arya’s elections. After hearing the news of Mahesh Sharma leaving the party, Arya and MLA Sumit Hridayesh also tried to convince him but he did not agree.
Mahendra did the work of bridge
BJP leader Mahendra Adhikari continued to act as a bridge to bring Congress General Secretary Mahesh Sharma into the party. He continuously held talks with senior leaders in this regard.
