The court of Special Judge (POCSO) Additional District Judge Archana Sagar has sentenced the accused of raping a six-year-old girl to life imprisonment, declaring him guilty. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 20,000 has also been imposed on the accused. If the fine is not paid, an additional sentence of one month will have to be served. This is the first case in Dehradun, when a convict has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the POCSO court. According to Assistant District Government Advocate Alpana Thapa appointed by the state, a person had given a complaint in Mussoorie Kotwali that on March 2, 2021, when he came home at 6:30 pm after working as a laborer, his wife told that Madan Shahi, a resident of Nepal, took their six-year-old daughter to the room and raped her. After this, the girl bled a lot, due to which she was admitted to the hospital. In this case, a case was registered against the accused in Mussoorie Kotwali. In the statement given before the court, the mother of the victim told that she is also originally from Nepal. On March 2, 2021, her husband had gone to work. During this time, the accused took her daughter to his room and raped her. The victim was bleeding continuously. After this, the accused himself took the girl to the Civil Hospital in Mussoorie and told that she had fallen, due to which she got injured. When the girl’s condition became critical, she was referred to a private hospital in Dehradun. After checkup in the emergency, she was admitted to the ICU. In this case, 16 witnesses were presented by the prosecution, including eight doctors. At the same time, advocate Surjeet of Mussoorie police station and court clerk Ravinder Kotiyal played an important role in putting the culprit behind the bars. During the sentence, the judge said that the accused raped a girl under the age of 12 and brought her to a critical condition. Under these circumstances, it is justified to give the victim five lakh rupees as compensation. At the same time, considering the case serious, the court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment under the sections of rape and endangering her life.
