Weather is changing in Uttarakhand, feeling of heat during the day; increased chill at night

admin October 26, 2024

The weather has become dry in Doon and surrounding areas. The days have become warm again due to bright sunshine. However, chill is being felt due to the fall in mercury at night. For the past few days, there was light rain and snowfall along with clouds hovering in the mountainous regions, due to which the mercury in Doon started falling rapidly. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Doon may remain the same till Diwali. On Thursday, bright sunshine was shining since morning in most areas including Doon. With the increase in heat during the day, scorching heat was felt. However, coolness is being felt in the morning and evening. For the past few days, drizzle and light snowfall were also recorded along with partial clouds hovering in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh etc. districts. Due to which a drop in mercury was being recorded. Two days ago, the maximum temperature of Doon was around 29 degrees Celsius, which reached above 34 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This temperature is six degrees Celsius above normal. In other areas, the mercury remains four to five degrees Celsius higher. At the same time, the minimum temperature is normal or slightly higher. According to Bikram Singh, Director of Meteorological Center, the weather may remain dry in Doon for the next few days. There are chances of bright sunshine from the mountains to the plains in the state. The maximum temperature may remain above normal. At present, there is no possibility of rain anywhere.

Pindar glacier is slipping due to global warming, environmentalists are worried

Glaciers are retreating rapidly due to global warming. The Himalayan region of Uttarakhand has also not remained untouched by this. According to the Indian Space Research Organization, the Gangotri glacier has retreated 455 meters in the Gomukh area between 1989 and 2020. At the same time, Pindar glacier in Bageshwar district has retreated about half a kilometer in 60 years. The size of small lakes formed by glaciers has also increased in the past years. Environmentalists as well as mountaineers are worried about this. The famous Pindari Glacier located in Bageshwar district was discovered in 1830 by Kumaon Commissioner Sir George William Trail. The effect of global warming is now being seen in Pindari Glacier as well. Mountaineer Yogesh Parihar says that the trekking route destroyed in the 2013 disaster is not in good condition yet. Many routes between Furkiya and Pindari have disappeared. Due to melting and sliding of glaciers, the effect of heat will be felt more in the Himalayan region, while water sources may be in danger.

Padmashree Anoop Sah, who went to Pindari after 60 years, gave indications of danger
75-year-old Padmashree Anoop Sah, a member of the State Wildlife Council, returned from Pindari Glacier two days ago. Padmashree Anoop says that a lot of change is visible in the zero point of Pindari Glacier. In this sense, the glacier has moved back by about half a kilometer.
