Devbhoomi painted in the color of Shiva, Shivalaya resounded with chants, long queue of devotees outside

admin February 26, 2025

Today is a very special day for the devotees of Bholenath. Devotees have been standing in long queues outside Shivalaya since late night for the Jalabhishek of Mahadev on Mahashivratri. Elders, elderly, young and children, all are waiting for their turn to see Mahadev in the temple with chants of Bholenath.

The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were married on this day. On the day of Mahashivratri, Devadhidev Mahadev adopted a household life. By worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati properly on this day, wishes are fulfilled. Although, the whole day of Mahashivratri is dedicated to Shiva worship, but worship done in the auspicious time gives special results. Shiva is Mahakaal, the time of times, so his worship is not affected by inauspicious times like Bhadra and Panchak. Therefore, despite Bhadra on Mahashivratri, Shiva puja can be performed uninterrupted throughout the day. The word Mahashivratri means the night of Lord Shiva. Maha means great and Shivratri means the night of Lord Shiva.
It is a religious belief that Lord Bholenath was married to Goddess Parvati on the day of Shivratri. That is why, by staying awake all night on Mahashivratri and worshiping Shiva and his power Mata Parvati, devotees receive special blessings from Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
