There is a buzz in the political corridors about whether BJP will be able to hit a hat-trick in the assembly elections to be held after one and a half years in Uttarakhand. In the nearly three and a half year tenure of Pushkar Singh Dhami as Chief Minister, BJP won the Lok Sabha elections, assembly by-elections, municipal bodies and panchayat elections. Many important decisions were taken keeping the party’s core agenda at the center and they were also given legal form. It is the party’s increased trust in Dhami that a consensus has been reached on reshuffle and expansion of the cabinet. On the basis of this trust, the BJP high command is ready to bet on Dhami in the next assembly elections as well. BJP has already started strengthening the ground for the year 2027. The success in the first municipal elections and then the panchayat elections in a period of about seven months has boosted the morale of the BJP. In view of the trend of rural voters after urban voters, both these elections were being considered as semi-finals before the great battle of assembly elections.
Congress did not capture even one of the 11 municipal corporations
The entire preparation of the ruling party was based on keeping the main rival Congress away from tough competition. Congress did not capture even one of the 11 municipal corporations, while out of 12 district panchayat presidents, only one seat could come in the account of Congress. BJP strategists are considering this as their lead. Chief Minister Dhami himself was at the center of this strategy of the ruling party. Earlier, Dhami has added the achievements of winning all five seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well as three out of five assembly by-elections. Better coordination at every level between the government and the organization has proved effective in strengthening the foundation of stability in the state. The BJP high command has put forward a big message and example through this. Mahendra Bhatt’s coronation as the state president for the second time in a row has also been seen as a trust in Dhami.
Dhami reached the spot and took charge
As the Chief Minister, Dhami gave priority to the expectations of the high command and made simplification and solution the main mantra for governance and management. Be it the Silkyara tunnel accident or the disaster in Dharali-Tharali, Pauri, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar, Dhami reached the spot and took charge.
Be it the initiative to legalize the Uniform Civil Code or a strict law to prevent conversion, or recovery of compensation for damage to government property by rioters, the Dhami government has continuously taken forward the core agenda of the BJP. When Dhami put in all his efforts to live up to the party’s standards, the high command also kept its blessings on him.
