The heavy rains in Uttarakhand are now affecting the power generation. Most of the power houses of Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVNL) have stopped turbines due to increased silt and overflow in rivers. On August 30, the total power generation in the state was 23.715 million units, while the total production loss was 3.231 million units. But by September 1, the situation deteriorated and the total production decreased to 12.474 million units. During this period, the total production loss increased to 13.853 million units. Rivers are in spate from the mountain to the ground due to continuous rains. Due to excessive silt in water, turbines have to be shut down in many electrical houses. Due to this, power generation has been badly affected in many projects including Chibro, Khodri, Chila, Dhalipur. However, the good thing is that due to low heat, power consumption has also decreased. Also, the Energy Corporation is getting adequate power available as part of the center. Also, electricity is being purchased from the market as per the requirement. For this reason, there is no power crisis in the state at present.
