Action will be taken on violation of land law in Uttarakhand, the government has sought a report from all DMs within a week

admin October 11, 2024

Action will be taken at the government level on the purchase of land arbitrarily in violation of land law in the state and its use. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has issued an order asking all divisional commissioners and district magistrates to compulsorily submit a report within a week on cases of purchase of more than 250 square meters of land by members of the same family outside the municipal body areas and use of this land for other purposes. Similarly, the government has sought a report on the violation of provisions of purchase of more than 12.5 acres of land with permission. This report will be made available to the government through the Revenue Council.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi issued orders in this regard to all the District Magistrates, both Divisional Commissioners as well as Revenue Council Commissioner and Secretary on October 7. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, taking a tough stand on the violation of the provisions of the current land law, had ordered the Revenue Secretary to investigate and vest the land in the government in such cases. There is also a provision in the land law that in case of wrong use of land, it can be vested in the government. According to the amendment made in the year 2007 in Section 154 (4) (1) (a) of Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Vinaash and Bhumi Vyavastha Act, 1950) (Adaptation and Conversion Order, 2001) Act No. 3, any person can purchase a maximum of 250 square meters of land in his lifetime without permission for residential purpose for himself or his family.

The government received information that members of the same family are violating the land law by purchasing the same amount of land separately. This law has been violated outside the municipal body areas. Not only this, the land purchased for residential use is being used in other ways in an illegal manner. Now the District Magistrate will send the report of such cases to the Revenue Council on the prescribed format. Information has also come to light about irregularities in the purchase of more than 12.5 acres of land after taking permission under the land law. Details regarding the use of this land for other purpose will be provided to the government through the Revenue Council.
