For the BSP, which is trying to become the third angle in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand, party supremo Mayawati’s meeting in Mangalore infused new zeal and enthusiasm among the workers. Mayawati tried to woo the Scheduled Caste and Muslim voters, considered the traditional vote bank of BSP. In the meeting held in Muslim dominated Mangalore assembly constituency, he not only targeted BJP-Congress but also described BSP as a true sympathizer of Scheduled Castes, poor, laborers and farmers.
Efforts to reach out to minority communities
By mentioning the developments in Banbhulpura of Haldwani, he tried to convey his message to the minority community of Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar also. He connected the local people emotionally by enumerating the development works done during the tenure of BSP in Haridwar region during the time of united Uttar Pradesh. In the Lok Sabha elections, BSP has fielded its candidates on all five seats in the state. BSP has played its bets in these elections only on the basis of social engineering. The party played Muslim card in two plain seats of the state, Haridwar and Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar. Many implications are being drawn from the meeting of BSP supremos in Mangalore in political circles. If seen, this assembly seat is vacant after the death of BSP MLA from Mangalore Sarbat Karim Ansari. In such a situation, BSP is trying its best to get this seat back.
The BSP supremo’s meeting is being seen as a step towards keeping the partymen united here. Especially the BSP does not want to let its traditional vote bank of Scheduled Caste and Muslim community voters get alienated from itself.
BSP supremo also kept this matter at the center in her address. Referring to the Banbhulpura incident, he accused Muslims of step-motherly treatment in the state and also talked about snatching reservation from Scheduled Castes and minorities. It is clear that by doing this she is trying to keep these sections associated with herself.
At the same time, accusing the state government of playing with nature, he said that due to this the lands here are slipping. With this, he tried to reach out to the voters of the hilly region by expressing the pain of the Joshimath disaster affected people.
