UCC Committee Chairperson Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai along with members of the drafting committee submitted the UCC draft report to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at an event organized at Chief Sevak Sadan. During this, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that we were waiting for this draft for a long time, today we have received the draft. We had promised the people of Uttarakhand that after the formation of the new government, we will make a law for Uniform Civil Code. After examining this draft, completing all the necessary formalities, the bill will be introduced by presenting the draft in the Assembly.
Emphasis on tightening the laws in the draft
The draft will be presented as a bill in the assembly session starting from February 5. Emphasis has been laid on making the laws stricter in the draft. More than 400 sections are mentioned in the draft. The government had constituted an expert committee to prepare its draft. The committee has now completed this work in 20 months. During this period, the committee took suggestions from different areas and communities of the state in more than 60 meetings and through online medium.
