The pilgrimage covers the four revered shrines—Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri—all located in high हिमालयी (Himalayan) regions. Due to extreme weather conditions and reduced oxygen levels, pilgrims often face health challenges such as सांस की तकलीफ, हाई ब्लड प्रेशर, और दिल संबंधी समस्याएं (respiratory issues, hypertension, and cardiac conditions).
To tackle these risks, the Health Department has deployed 25 specialist doctors, 178 medical officers, and 414 paramedical staff along the yatra route. For the first time, dedicated hospitals with 17 beds in Kedarnath and 45 beds in Badrinath will be operational during the pilgrimage. Additionally, 47 existing permanent health facilities in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi have been upgraded, and 25 medical relief posts have been fully activated.
Health Secretary Sachin Kurve stated that micro-level planning has been done for the यात्रा. Medical teams have received special training, and additional staff deployment is being ensured through a structured roster system.
Screening Begins Before the Journey
To minimize risks from the outset, authorities have set up 57 health screening kiosks across Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. These centers will conduct health check-ups of pilgrims before they proceed further.
Through these screenings, individuals suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and other serious conditions will be identified early. They will be provided with medical advice and assistance, ensuring that only those fit for the journey proceed to higher altitudes.
Strong Medical Presence on All Fronts
The government has left no gap in preparedness this year. A strong, multi-level medical team has been stationed, including specialists such as physicians, orthopedicians, anesthetists, and gynecologists. These experts are equipped to handle a wide range of emergencies.
In addition, 177 ambulances will be deployed along the yatra route to ensure quick response in emergencies. In critical situations, patients will be airlifted via helicopter to larger hospitals for advanced treatment.
24/7 हेल्पलाइन और निगरानी
To maintain constant monitoring and provide immediate assistance, helpline numbers 112, 108, and 104 will remain active круглों (24/7). Notably, the 104 helpline will also track high-risk pilgrims continuously, ensuring timely intervention if their condition deteriorates.
Government Assures Safe and Smooth Yatra
State Health Minister Subodh Uniyal emphasized that the Char Dham Yatra is not just a matter of faith but also a major responsibility involving the safety of millions. He stated that this year, healthcare arrangements have been elevated to a new level, with strengthened facilities in every district and increased medical relief posts along the route.
He assured that no pilgrim will face difficulty due to lack of medical care, and the government is fully prepared to ensure a safe, smooth, and successful pilgrimage season.
Overall, the extensive preparations reflect a proactive approach by the authorities, aiming to safeguard pilgrims against health risks while maintaining the spiritual essence of the journey.
