
50-50 kilometer cycle track will be constructed in four districts of the state, Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this announcement on Monday on World Environment Day. He said that a target has been set to make as many cycle tracks as possible in nine districts including these.
Planted saplings near Chief Minister’s residence:
Chief Minister Dhami and Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal planted saplings near the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday. Also provided jute bags to the children of various schools. On this occasion, the Chief Minister made the above announcement. He said that a Spring and River Rejuvenation Board would be constituted in the state for the revival of water bodies and rivers. Emphasizing the cleanliness of the environment, he said that for this the focus should be on the villages. Also announced that each gram panchayat doing the best work in the field of cleanliness in the districts would be rewarded.
Had a meeting with all the District Magistrates:
Later, Chief Minister Dhami held a meeting with all the District Magistrates through virtual medium from his residence. He stressed on running awareness campaign for environmental protection, working through various departments and taking public cooperation in plantation and cleanliness campaign. He said that everyone has to pay attention to ensure that the coming generations get pure air, water, soil and environment.
Emphasizing on conserving forests and linking them with employment, he said that this will promote eco-based employment. He emphasized on making the soil chemical-free for soil conservation, saving organisms helpful in making organic fertilizers, maintaining moisture, preventing the loss of groundwater, preventing soil erosion due to the reduction in the area of forests. Also mentioned various centrally funded schemes.
Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that the rapid geographical and climate change is a matter of concern. Tourism activities are increasing in the state, in view of this, efforts will have to be made in the direction of maximum tree plantation and cleanliness for environmental protection. He also told the need for empowerment of Van Panchayats. Principal Secretary Forest RK Sudhanshu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Anoop Malik were also present in the meeting.
