‘Congress accounts frozen at the behest of Prime Minister and Home Minister’, Karan Mahara targeted the government

State Congress President Karan Mahara reacted sharply to the freezing of the party’s bank accounts. He alleged that all this is being done to weaken the Congress in the country. At the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, a conspiracy is being hatched to weaken Indian democracy. While talking to journalists at the state Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan on Friday, Karan Mahara said that a planned effort is being made to weaken the Congress financially. The money collected from the public and workers has been stopped. For fair elections in a democracy, there should be equal opportunities for all political parties.

One party should not act arbitrarily
Karan Mahara said that one party should not act arbitrarily. The accounts were frozen because Congress could not contest the elections on an equal footing. Income Tax Department imposed a penalty of Rs 210 crore i.e. 106 percent in case of irregularity of Rs 14.40 lakh. The department forcibly transferred an amount of Rs 115 crore.

The matter is of income tax return of 2018-2019
Karan Mahara said that this matter is related to the income tax return of the year 2018-2019. Congress had to give information related to its account to the Income Tax Department by December 31, 2019. There was a delay of about 45 days. Usually this gets delayed. In such a situation, the benefit of the exemption policy should have been given to Congress also, but it was not done.

Congress is unable to campaign due to account freezing
Mahara alleged that BJP’s advertisements were plastered all around. It has five-star offices everywhere. There is no account of the government’s election expenses. At the same time, due to freezing of accounts, Congress is not able to utilize the amount of Rs 285 crore deposited in its bank. 30-35 year old cases are being investigated to prevent him from contesting elections.

Congress represents 20 percent of the people
Karan Mahara said that the party represents 20 percent of the people of the country. The court and the Election Commission should intervene. He demanded opening of freeze accounts.
