Even though Congress has lost in the Bageshwar by-election, the party is believing that it has got such a mantra with which it can give a tough competition to the BJP. Now this mantra is going to become the party’s weapon in breaking into the fort of BJP which has been undefeated in the Lok Sabha elections for 10 years. Learning from this strategy of by-elections, the main opposition party will prepare afresh for the five Lok Sabha seats of the state. The by-election of Bageshwar Assembly seat, held almost a year after the BJP government was formed in the state for the second consecutive time last year, did not fulfill the wish of Congress’s victory, but the way the ruling party had to struggle for victory, the main opposition party was disappointed. Morale has increased.
Hope to compete hard and win
The party is beginning to have strong hopes that it can be in a position to give a tough fight and win the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019, Congress could not get even one out of five seats in the state. Congress had earlier shown its strong hold on the politics of the state in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2004 and 2009. In the year 2009, Congress had won all five seats, whereas in the year 2004 it had won three seats. Now the situation is such that the party is yearning for victory.
Big leaders also stood with the organization
In the Champawat by-election held shortly after the assembly elections last year, the party had also lost by a huge margin of votes. To break this series of defeats, the party had to make strategic changes in the Bageshwar by-election. The party placed its bet on a strong candidate to give a tough fight on the Bageshwar assembly seat, which had been impenetrable in the last four assembly elections. Along with the state organization, big leaders of the party united and stood firm in the assembly constituency.
Highest votes received in by-election
Congress also tried to make anti-incumbency a weapon against the state government. Congress has been successful in getting more than 30 thousand votes in the by-election. In the last four elections, the party obtained the highest number of votes in the by-elections. In the year 2022, the BJP candidate won by a margin of 12,141 votes. In the by-election this difference reduced to 2405 votes. Now a strategy will be made to use the strategy of Bageshwar by-election as an important factor in the Lok Sabha elections.
