In Uttarakhand, bright sunshine is shining amidst dry weather in most areas. Due to which the mercury is rising and heat is being felt. The sun is piercing especially in the plains, however, the chill remains due to the mercury reaching below normal at night. Days are getting hot and nights are getting cold in Doon. There is a difference of up to 20 degrees Celsius between day and night temperatures. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather may remain dry in the surrounding areas on Saturday as well. There are chances of light rain in some hilly areas along with Dehradun amid partial clouds.
Bright sunshine in Doon and surrounding areas
Bright sunshine was shining in Doon and surrounding areas since Friday morning. In the afternoon, the mercury crossed 27 degrees Celsius and heat started being felt. The weather is hot right now and people have started avoiding warm clothes. However, chill remains in the morning and evening. Night temperature is being recorded below normal. The minimum temperature in Doon is around seven degrees Celsius. Which is about 20 degrees Celsius less than the maximum temperature. A large difference in temperature is also worrisome from the health point of view.
Weather will change on Saturday
According to the Director of Meteorological Center, Bikram Singh, there are chances of partly cloudy weather and light rain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Dehradun on Saturday. The weather may remain dry in other districts and there is a possibility of sunshine throughout the day.
Natural water sources could not be recharged due to less rainfall
Dehradun: The rain water conservation plant installed last year in the water source adjacent to the city could not be recharged due to insufficient rain water reaching it. The main reason for this is also said to be less rainfall. Last year, the city received 10 percent less rainfall than in the past years. Whereas in the past years, there was rainfall up to 1,250 mm. In such a situation, the drinking water crisis may deepen in summer this year as well.
Under SARA (Spring and River Rejuvenation), a plan was made to recharge 17 natural water sources of Raipur, eight of Sahaspur, one of Doiwala and one of Dehradun in June 2024. A budget was duly released for this. Rainwater was to be conserved by installing water conservation plants in these. So that the discharge of the water source increases and it does not reach the verge of drying up during the scorching heat.
At the same time, people adjoining the city can get adequate water supply. For this, the Drinking Water Corporation, Irrigation Department, Minor Irrigation Department and Forest Department identified the natural water sources of their respective areas and equipped them with rainwater conservation plants. But due to lack of sufficient rainfall last year, these natural water sources could not be fully recharged. However, it is expected that now they will be recharged in the next rain.
