Uniform Civil Code is going to be implemented in the entire country on the initiative of Uttarakhand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in Bhopal on Tuesday has given strong indications of this. These days, the committee constituted to draft the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand is busy in finalizing it.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that as soon as the final draft comes, the government will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. It is also clear from this that the consent of the Center was involved in the initiative taken by the Dhami government. The topic of Uniform Civil Code has been at the top of the BJP’s agenda. In the assembly elections held in the year 2022, the state BJP had given it a prominent place in its vision document.
Five member expert committee is working:
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also said in his election speeches that Uniform Civil Code would be implemented here if the BJP government is formed in the state. After coming to power, he took steps in this direction. The Dhami government constituted a five-member expert committee headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Senior) to draft a Uniform Civil Code. This committee has held meetings with the general public as well as minority communities, various tribes and women of the state and taken their suggestions.
Finalizing the draft:
CM Dhami said that all the sections and communities of the society have given suggestions keeping their point before the committee with an open mind. The state government has extended the tenure of the committee twice. Now the tenure has been extended till September. The committee has received over 2.5 lakh suggestions and is finalizing the draft. Now the Law Commission is also discussing with the public for a uniform civil code in the whole country.
Country’s eyes fixed on Uttarakhand:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address on Tuesday that the Supreme Court has given its instructions. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also praised Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for this. It is obvious that in such a situation, the eyes of the whole country are fixed on Uttarakhand. It is understood that the Uniform Civil Code to be implemented in Uttarakhand will include various aspects related to it and will be presented as a model. This will make the way easier for the Center as well as other states.
Uniform Civil Code will be implemented soon:
In such a situation, the state government has started trying to implement it as soon as possible. It is believed that after getting the report of the committee, the state government will implement the Uniform Civil Code after getting the bill passed by the assembly with necessary amendments in it. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself tweeted on Tuesday that the government is going to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state as soon as the final draft of the committee comes.
