The tension between the two stalwarts of the Congress, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and former minister Dr. Harak Singh Rawat, is coming to the fore in a new form every day. Both these leaders want to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Haridwar seat.
Harish Rawat has been an MP from Haridwar, while Harak has earlier contested the Lok Sabha elections from Pauri seat. Harak maneuvered his claim and said that Harish Rawat should abdicate the throne for his brother Bharat, just as Lord Rama had abdicated the throne.
Where is Harish Rawat going to miss the counterattack now? Immediately the answer came that Bharat never did the work of toppling Ram’s government. You must have understood, in March 2016, nine MLAs including Harak left the Congress and joined the BJP, pushing the Harish Rawat government into deep trouble.
Lokayukta in discussion again after six years:
The Lokayukta, which was a big issue in the third and fourth assembly elections of the state, has sprung up again after six years. After the Nainital High Court ordered the appointment of Lokayukta in eight weeks, its discussion has started in political circles. Prior to the 2012 assembly elections, the then Chief Minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri had initiated the appointment of Lokayukta, but it did not materialize as the BJP was defeated in the elections. After this, amendments were made in the related bill during the Chief Ministership of Vijay Bahuguna and Harish Rawat, but could not be implemented. In the year 2017, when the BJP formed the government with more than three-fourth majority, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat brought the Lokayukta Bill in the very first session itself. However, at that time the Bill was referred to the Select Committee and has remained there ever since. Now the assembly has become active regarding this bill.
Many leaders in line for political rehabilitation:
It is discussed that along with the Union Cabinet, there is going to be a change in the BJP organization as well. With the Lok Sabha elections less than a year away, the BJP does not want to leave any stone unturned. Ajay Bhatt is representing Uttarakhand in Team Modi. Anyway, the states which have assembly elections in the next few months, this time only they are more likely to get an opportunity in the Union Cabinet. However, some senior leaders of Uttarakhand can definitely get a place in the central organization. BJP has many former Chief Ministers, two of them Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat are MPs. Another former chief minister is Vijay Bahuguna, who did not contest the assembly elections. Then Trivendra Singh Rawat is waiting for political rehabilitation for the last two and a half years after stepping down from the post of Chief Minister. Maybe he will get a place in the BJP organization this time.
Confused Congress, go here or there:
Uttarakhand is currently in discussion all over the country regarding the Uniform Civil Code. The expert committee constituted to prepare its draft has completed the work and soon it will be handed over to the state government. This subject has put the Congress in deep dilemma. By the way, this situation is also in front of the Congress in the national perspective, but on this initiative of the Dhami government of Uttarakhand, it has become like a well in front and a ditch in the back. Congress is neither able to openly support it nor oppose it. In fact, in the last year’s assembly elections, the issue of Muslim University stuck on the Congress so much that it had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of the BJP in the second consecutive election. The Lok Sabha elections are round the corner and now if the stand taken on Uniform Civil Code backfires, then this is the cause of worry for the Congress.
