An action plan of Rs 1845 crore has been approved for the treatment and rehabilitation of the affected people of Joshimath city, which is facing the brunt of the disaster in Chamoli district. In this, an amount of Rs 1464 crore will be released soon as central share. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said this after taking information regarding the Joshimath disaster from state officials at the Forest Research Institute.
Instructions to implement early warning system in Uttarakhand
The Union Home Minister directed the officials to implement early warning system in disaster-sensitive Uttarakhand, so that timely rescue can be done in case of disaster. On this, Secretary Disaster Management Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha informed him that there is a plan to develop Multi Early Warning System in the state. A proposal worth Rs 118 crore has been sent. This scheme is to be funded by the World Bank. The Home Minister directed to make such bye-laws for construction of buildings in the hilly cities of the state, which are eco-friendly as well as in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. He also inquired about the situation in the hill towns.
Will be tested for capacity
Secretary Disaster Management informed him that along with topographical, geotechnical, geological, geographical survey, these cities are also being tested for soil, water and carrying capacity. Different rules and bye-laws will be made according to the results that come after the test.
