If the rape victim becomes pregnant, the state government will take responsibility for her upbringing and making her self-reliant. Under this, a provision has been made to give nutrition allowance of four thousand rupees per month to each victim till the age of 23 years. Till this age, the government will also provide facilities like integrated medical care, legal aid, housing, education, skill development, so that the victim can become self-reliant till the completion of the nutrition allowance period. Under this scheme, a budget of Rs 10 lakh has been given to each district in the state. At present, the number of adolescent girls who have become mothers after becoming victims of rape in the state is 72. In this financial year, a budget of Rs 1 lakh each has been released for three districts. Women and Child Welfare Director Prashant Arya said that the department has started a comprehensive program for the care and assistance of the victims under the 100 percent funded scheme of the Central Government. Its objective is to provide integrated assistance to the victim pregnant girls. It includes essential services like education, police assistance, medical, long-term rehabilitation as well as care of the newborn baby. Under this, the victim will get counselling and mental health support, safe transport, legal aid, insurance for mother and child.
The child will also be taken care of.
Deputy Chief Probation Officer Anjana Gupta said that if the victim gives birth to a child, it can be kept in Special Adoption Agency (SAA) till the age of six years. It can be kept in SAA till she turns 18 years old. If the victim does not want to keep the child, she can hand it over to Shishu Griha. The District Child Protection Unit will register the Aadhaar card of every victim girl and her newborn child. A birth certificate will also be issued by the competent authority. Under Mission Vatsalya Yojana, institutional or non-institutional care and support facilities will be available. Apart from financial assistance of four thousand rupees per month, a lump sum assistance of six thousand rupees will also be given on the report of the Child Welfare Committee.
