If you receive more than five traffic tickets, your license will be revoked; new rules under the Central Motor Vehicles Act have been implemented.

admin February 6, 2026

If a person violates traffic rules five or more times within a one-year period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, it will be recorded as a serious offense.

In Uttarakhand, a driver’s license will now be revoked if they receive more than five traffic tickets. The transport department will also prepare a list of defaulters who have not paid their fines, and the police will be able to seize their vehicles. The new rules of the Central Motor Vehicles Act have also been implemented in Uttarakhand.

According to the amended rules, if a person violates traffic rules five or more times within a one-year period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, it will be recorded as a serious offense. If five or more tickets are issued, the driver’s license will be revoked. However, the good news is that offenses from the previous year will not be included in the calculation for the following year.

These rules have been implemented regarding fine payments:
Now, information about the fine will be received within three days through electronic means (SMS or email). Physical challans will be issued within 15 days. The fine must be accepted and paid within 45 days of issuance, or challenged on the portal. If no action is taken within 45 days, the fine will be considered accepted, and payment will be mandatory within the next 30 days. If you believe the fine was issued incorrectly, you can challenge it on the portal with documentary evidence. If the officer rejects your challenge, you will have the option to go to court, but you will have to deposit 50 percent of the fine amount beforehand.

A blacklist of defaulters will be created:
Taking strict action against those who do not comply with the rules, the government has made a provision that no application related to vehicle registration or driving license will be considered until the pending fines are settled. The vehicle will be placed in a category on the portal indicating that it cannot be transacted, i.e., it cannot be sold. Officials have also been given the authority to seize vehicles that violate the rules.
