Due to savings from purchasing cheap electricity, Energy Corporation will return the extra amount recovered in the electricity bill earlier to the consumers. In October, a rebate of about 84 crores will be given in the bills of the consumers of the state. Energy Corporation has saved more than two hundred crore rupees due to getting electricity at less than the average rates fixed by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission, which is being returned to the consumers from July. Under the Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment system, Energy Corporation makes additional recovery in the bills of consumers on purchasing electricity at a higher price than the average, while rebate is given on purchasing cheap electricity.
Rebate is given on purchasing cheap electricity
Energy Corporation Managing Director Anil Kumar said that in the tariff order of last March, the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission had approved the average power purchase rate of Rs 5.03 per unit for the year 2024-25. In comparison to which the average power purchase cost of Energy Corporation during the period April to August was Rs 4.75 per unit. Thus, in the period from April to August, the cost of electricity purchase of the Energy Corporation decreased by Rs 0.28 per unit (six percent) as compared to the approved average rate. Due to which there was a saving of about Rs 220 crore in the cost of electricity purchase. The amount of this saving in the cost of electricity purchase is being returned by the Energy Corporation by giving discounts in electricity bills to the consumers on a monthly basis. He told that under FPPCA, the Energy Corporation charges extra money in the bill when electricity is purchased at a higher price and the amount collected on the cheaper purchase is returned as a discount.
This is how discounts are being given in the bill
According to the Energy Corporation, discounts of Rs 39.06 crore (Rs 0.30 per unit) in July, Rs 67.10 crore (Rs 0.52 per unit) in August, Rs 28.88 crore (Rs 0.23 per unit) in September and now Rs 84.19 crore (Rs 0.70 per unit) in October are being given in the bills.
