Doon, which is moving on the path of big metropolises of the country, is losing its original identity. Poison is getting mixed in the air of Doon, once famous for its greenery, year after year. With the increasing population, indiscriminate construction and rush of vehicles have increased the level of pollution considerably. Apart from this, the expansion of industries is increasing the environmental challenge.
Political parties are also responsible for returning the original form of Doon. The political party which forms the board in the city government i.e. Municipal Corporation, is not responsible for improving the health of Doon air. Along with uncontrolled development, greenery in Doon is also decreasing. In such a situation, the level of pollution is continuously increasing. The pollutant particles coming out from various sources now float in the air for a longer time.
Pollution is continuously increasing
Especially during the peak of summer and winter, the level of air pollution also reaches its peak. Although the central government is making efforts to protect the air from getting polluted in Doon under the National Clean Air Program, but at present it is proving to be insufficient. Most of the air pollution in Doon is caused by vehicle smoke and dust flying in the open.
PM-2.5 is more dangerous for health
PM-10 and PM-2.5 come from different emission sources and their chemical composition is also different. Particulate matter formed from emissions from burning gasoline, oil, diesel fuel or wood comes under the category of PM-2.5. On the other hand, PM-10 includes dust, pollen etc. flying in the air from construction sites, landfills and agriculture, forest fires and garbage burning, industrial sources, open areas and roads.
BJP-Congress promise to make Doon green
In this election, mayor candidates of both BJP and Congress parties have talked about making the city green and taking measures to prevent pollution. In the manifesto of BJP candidate Saurabh Thapliyal, it has been said to make every ward a green ward, develop parks, run greenery road campaign etc. On the other hand, Congress candidate Virendra Pokhriyal has been talking about planting 2.5 lakh saplings every year in Doon since the first day. He has told his plan to make Doon green.
