Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is in a lot of discussions these days. The reason for this is the UCC law that has been recently brought by them in the state of Uttarakhand i.e. Uniform Citizenship Act. After bringing the draft of UCC, Dhami had recently said in his statement that the people of Uttarakhand had elected him for this work.
Hardly many people are familiar with the name of Pushkar Singh Dhami before becoming CM. As CM, Dhami has gained a lot of popularity. However, the journey of Pushkar Singh Dhami has not been easy. Very few people know about his early days. Today we will tell you about the special things related to CM Dhami. How a boy born in a soldier’s house traveled till the CM’s chair.
Born in Tundi village of Pithoragarh:
Pushkar Singh Dhami was born on September 16, 1975 in village Tundi, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Pushkar Singh Dhami’s father retired as a Subedar in the Indian Army. Dhami has also said many times that he wanted to join the Indian Army from the beginning, but luck had something else in store and Dhami entered politics.
Pushkar Singh Dhami studied up to the fifth standard in village Tundi itself. After retirement, his father shifted to Khatima town in Udham Singh Nagar district. He started living in Nagra Terai of Khatima. It was probably only then that someone had thought that Dhami would go to the House for the first time as an MLA from this city.
Pushkar liked Bhagat Singh Koshyari in Lucknow:
Very few people know that Pushkar Singh Dhami is a law graduate. He has done his law studies from Lucknow University. During this he was very active in student politics. In the year 1990, Dhami was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. After completing his studies, Dhami became fully active in the BJP party.
During this, he met former Governor of Maharashtra and former CM of Uttarakhand, Bhagat Singh Koshyari in a program. Koshyari was greatly impressed by Dhami’s speech at the students’ forum. After this Koshyari asked Dhami to become active in the BJP Yuva Morcha.
After some time, Dhami became the State President of the Indian Youth Front. He remained on this post till the year 2008. Dhami still considers former CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari as his political guru. Seeing Dhami’s political potential, Bhagat Singh Koshyari made him his political advisor.
Fought the first legislative election in the year 2012:
In a very short span of time, Pushkar Singh Dhami made a name for himself in the party. In the year 2012, the Bharatiya Janata Party, trusting Dhami’s ability, gave him a ticket from the Khatima assembly seat. Dhami won the first election of his career. After this, in the year 2017, he again reached the House by winning from Khatima assembly seat.
When Dhami’s name was announced for the CM face:
In the year 2021, when there was an upheaval in the politics of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh Rawat resigned from the post of CM. During this, discussions started that BJP will hand over the responsibility to a senior leader as the new CM of Uttarakhand. The names of many big BJP leaders were coming to the fore.
Suddenly the name of Pushkar Singh Dhami was approved by the BJP. After calling Dhami to Delhi, the party high command told him that now Dhami will take over the reins of Uttarakhand state. Thus on July 3, 2021, Dhami was sworn in as the tenth CM of Uttarakhand.
He himself lost and the party was won.
After taking the oath of CM, Pushkar Singh Dhami had two big challenges. Keeping one party united and maintaining BJP’s power in the second year 2022 elections. Because in the history of Uttarakhand’s politics, it has always been said that no party here has been in the government for two consecutive terms. Every 5 years the government changes here, people kept saying this and it kept happening.
Well, the BJP contested the 2022 assembly elections under the leadership of CM Dhami. Breaking all the myths, the BJP formed its government here again.
BJP fought the election so strongly that former CM Harish Rawat lost the election from Lalkuan. However, Dhami could not retain his victory from Khatima. Bhuvan Singh Kapri defeated Pushkar Singh Dhami from Khatima and Bhuvan Kapri became the MLA of Khatima for the first time.
Despite the defeat, the party reposed faith in Dhami:
When Dhami lost the election from Khatima, discussions started that now someone else will become the CM. Because Dhami had lost the election. But in the meantime, it was said from the BJP side that only CM Dhami would be given the responsibility of the post of CM. Since Dhami had to win the election within 6 months so that he could take oath as CM again.
In such a situation, BJP MLA Kailash Gahtodi, who won from Champawat seat, left his seat for Pushkar Singh Dhami and resigned from the post of MLA. By-elections were again held on Champawat seat and from here BJP contested Dhami. Dhami registered victory in the by-election. Dhami won this election on June 3, 2022. In this way Dhami again became the CM of Uttarakhand.
