After the bus accident in Almora district, on the instructions of Transport Commissioner Brijesh Kumar Sant, road safety audit will be conducted in four districts of Dehradun division, Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri and Uttarkashi. Issuing its orders on Wednesday, Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Shailesh Kumar Tiwari said that ARTOs of all areas will be its nodal officers. A joint team of Transport Department, Police, National Highway Division and Public Works Department will be involved in this. In this, along with checking the condition of the roads, accident prone sites will be investigated. The RTO said that the investigation will be completed by December 31 and the report will be sent to the government.
Instructions to conduct road safety audit in all districts
After the bus accident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions to conduct road safety audit in all the districts. In this sequence, the Transport Commissioner has asked the transport officers of all the four divisions to conduct safety audit of the concerned areas and submit the report. Let us tell you that, in view of the increasing number of road accidents and casualties, a road safety committee has been formed at the national level on the instructions of the Supreme Court. Under this committee, state level road safety councils and district road safety committees work in all the states. These include teams from the Transport Department, Police and Public Works Department including National Highways. Vehicle accidents are happening continuously due to bad roads, potholes on the roads, absence of safety walls and parapets on the roadside in mountainous areas. Not only this, many accidents have also happened due to lack of lane marking on the roads. For this, it has been decided that a safety audit of the roads will be done. RTO Tiwari said that the joint team will survey such places where there is a possibility of accidents due to the condition of the road, lack of safety measures etc. Such places will be marked as accident prone places and a report will be prepared. The joint team will also give a report with suggestions for improvement at such places.
