This year heat is wreaking havoc in Uttarakhand. Severe heat wave prevails especially in the plains. Life is affected by heat waves. After reaching an all-time high in May, the maximum temperature of Doon has broken all records in June as well. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature of Doon was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius, which is the highest in 122 years. In the year 2022, the mercury had reached 41.6 degrees Celsius in June. Whereas, the all-time record is 43.9 degrees Celsius in the year 1902. However, there is a possibility of further increase in mercury in the next two days in Doon and other plain areas.
Maximum temperature around 42 degrees Celsius
The weather has remained dry in most areas of Uttarakhand for the last one week. Due to bright sunshine, the scorching heat and heat waves are making people miserable. Fire is raining from the sky in most of the plain areas including Dehradun. The maximum temperature remains around 42 degrees Celsius. In Doon, the mercury has been above 40 degrees Celsius for the last four days and is continuously rising. Apart from this, the mercury has also reached the highest level in Roorkee, Kotdwar, Rishikesh, Rudrapur, Pantnagar etc.
According to the Meteorological Center, the weather is expected to remain dry in Uttarakhand for the time being. Light rain may occur at high altitudes in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. There is a possibility of gusty winds and lightning in the surrounding low-lying areas. A warning has been issued regarding heat wave in the plains.

The mercury is rising due to lack of rain
After less rainfall in April and May, June is also passing dry. So far this month, there has been about 60 percent less rainfall than normal, due to which the weather remains dry and the heat is increasing continuously. The beginning of summer in March was somewhat relieving, but the clouds remained angry in April and May. In March, the state received 29 percent more rainfall than normal, but in April the clouds rained 46 percent less than normal. After this, there was 21 percent less rainfall than normal in May as well. The maximum temperature remained four to seven degrees Celsius higher than normal on most days throughout the month. Also, in the last one week, the mercury reached record levels due to the sun becoming more harsh. There is a possibility of severe heat in the beginning of June as well. This year, from March 1 to May 31, the state has received 128 mm rainfall in summer. Which is 19 percent less than the normal rainfall of 159 mm. Whereas, in the monsoon season which started from June 1, 59 percent less rainfall has been recorded so far.
