SIR in U’khand: 18.5 lakh mapped, 8.8 lakh unmapped voters to receive notice

About 18.50 lakh electors- which is about 26 per cent of the total mapped voters- in Uttarakhand have been found with anomalies following the mapping of the voters by the Election Commission during the process of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The mapping of the voters was done during the pre-SIR activity in the State. These electors with anomalies are likely to receive notices from the commission to rectify the discrepancy. Apart from these 18.50 lakh electors, notices will also be issued to about 8.80 lakh electors of the State who had remained unmapped during the pre-SIR.

The notices will be issued after publication of the draft  electoral roll on July 14, 2026. The notices will be issued by the electoral registration officers (ERO) concerned who are the sub divisional magistrates (SDM). There are 70 EROs in the State and the commission has deputed about 800 assistant electoral registration officers (AERO) to assist them. As per the commission, a logical anomaly or discrepancy is when there is difference in the name of the elector or name of the father in the current SIR and the electoral roll prepared after the last SIR (2003 in Uttarakhand). A discrepancy will occur when the difference in the age of the elector and parents is less than 15 years or more than 50 years. Similarly, if more than six voters are mapped as progeny of any elector then the discrepancy will exist and can prompt a notice to the elector.

According to the commission, the notices will be system generated and will be issued by the EROs. After receipt of the notice, the electors will visit the ARO or AERO concerned with documents prescribed by the commission and the report of the booth level officer (BLO) concerned.

The chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam told The Pioneer that every effort is being made to ensure that the entire process is convenient and hassle free.

It is worth mentioning here that the process of the SIR is currently underway in the State with house to house distribution of the enumeration forms by the BLOs and digitisation of the filled forms.
