Illegal purchase and sale of land and fraud were caught due to laxity and flexible provisions in the implementation of land law in the state. In the investigation conducted by the government, violation of law was found in 599 cases of land use. In 572 of these cases, cases have been filed in the court. The new land law will help in bridging the gap between real investors and land mafia in the state.
After receiving large scale complaints of violation of the old land law in the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had ordered an inquiry. After the investigation, it was revealed that permission was given to purchase a total of 1883 lands from the level of the government and the District Magistrate for various purposes including industrial, tourism, educational, health and agriculture and horticulture in the state.
Maximum violation in 266 cases in Dehradun
266 cases of violation came to light in Dehradun. In Haridwar, violations were reported in 39 cases. In Nainital district, permission was given in 157 cases, while violations were reported in 95. In Almora district, 111 permissions were given. 40 cases of violation were reported. In Pauri, violations were reported in 67 out of 78 cases. Cases were filed in 59 cases, while eight were dismissed. There is a shortage of land for development work in the state. In such a situation, public anger increased due to illegal purchase and sale. More than 71 percent of the total area of the state is forest area. In this too, the share of plain land is only 13.92 percent. More than 86 percent of the land is mountainous. In this too, due to reserved forest areas, wildlife sanctuaries and various environmental restrictions, the area of useful land is limited.
