The heat has increased in entire Uttarakhand including Doon and gradually the water crisis has also started deepening. Complaints are being received about disrupted water supply from cities to rural areas. In Doon too, there is a drinking water crisis in many areas for some time. Complaints ranging from low pressure, contaminated water to supply disruption are being received daily. 23 to 30 complaints are being received daily in the control room of Jal Sansthan. At the same time, the exercise of Jal Sansthan has also increased. Jal Sansthan has claimed to identify the areas facing drinking water crisis in Doon every year and make alternative arrangements.
There is often water crisis here
There are often water shortages in about 120 such localities and 15 settlements in the city. The department has made an alternative plan for these identified areas. According to the plan, the Jal Sansthan will not only supply water to these areas through tankers. Arrangements for generators will also be made in the tube wells from which water is supplied to these areas. According to the standards, 135 liters of water is required per person in urban areas and 70 liters per person in rural areas. On the contrary, the reality is that people in urban areas are getting only 100 liters of water while in rural areas only 50 liters of water is available. Doon currently has 283 tube wells as well as three river-spring sources. Most of the drinking water supply in Doon comes from tube wells. As the heat increases the groundwater level goes down. The capacity of the tube well also starts decreasing. Water flow from other sources also decreases. Jal Sansthan has identified more than 120 localities, 16 settlements and colonies in the four zones North, South, Pithuwala and Raipur, where there was a severe shortage of drinking water in the last years.
However, according to Neelima Garg, Chief General Manager of Jal Sansthan, all preparations have been made on time by the department. At present there is no water crisis anywhere. Keeping in view the drinking water problem of every year, a zone wise plan has been prepared. To solve the problems of these areas, there is a provision of 30 rented tankers including eight departmental tankers and 10 generators to operate tube wells in case of power supply disruption.
