A virtual meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of the Congress was held on Sunday. State in-charge Devendra Yadav said in the meeting that BJP is using Uttarakhand as a laboratory. Before giving any reaction on Uniform Civil Code its draft has to be seen. There is a need to talk about this topic. Must wait for this. He said that yatras should be taken out in all the five Lok Sabha constituencies on different topics of public interest.
Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that the BJP is not bringing up the issue of Uniform Civil Code with a good idea. This step is being taken by BJP only to cover up its failure. He said that there are many burning issues of inflation, unemployment and women harassment in the state. Instead of taking action on them, BJP is misleading the public by bringing this type of agenda. Until the draft Uniform Civil Code comes out, nothing can be said on this.
Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that it should not be limited to Hindu-Muslim only. People of all castes and religions live in the country. Reservation will also be affected by this law along with customs and beliefs.
National Secretary Qazi Nizamuddin said that this is the first step of BJP towards ending reservation. There is a need to activate the minority department, OBC department, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe department of Congress. The party will have to take an aggressive stand on this.
In the meeting, Deputy Leader of Opposition Bhuvan Kapri, former State President Ganesh Godial, MLA Sumit Hridayesh, Chairman of Disciplinary Committee Navprabhat and State Vice President Mathuradatt Joshi and other office bearers also presented their views.
