Along with the candidate, star campaigners play an important role in creating the atmosphere in any election. In Uttarakhand too, vigorous campaigning went on for a month on all five seats of the Lok Sabha elections. In this star war, the ruling BJP was seen ahead of the opposition parties. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami became the star campaigner who held maximum number of public meetings and road shows along with stormy tours in a month. He held more than 25 public meetings and road shows in a month for two parliamentary seats of Kumaon. Even in Almora Lok Sabha seat, which has adverse geographical conditions, the CM held 12 meetings and by holding 13 meetings in Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary seat, he left all the star campaigners far behind in this election.
Dhami’s two-year tenure completed
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s two-year tenure has been completed. At this time Dhami has become a national face. A bill like Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been implemented. Uttarakhand has become the first state to do so. At the same time, due to making strict laws like anti-copying law, anti-conversion law, anti-riot law, CM has his own distinct image. He even mingles easily among the common people. This is the reason why he is the most popular star campaigner of the state. The CM was completely dedicated to achieving a hat-trick on all five seats. He left no stone unturned in campaigning. The way he himself took charge of the vigorous campaign in the two parliamentary constituencies of Kumaon. Similarly, he continued reaching three parliamentary seats of Garhwal also. After the implementation of the code of conduct on March 16, he has also become the leader who has held the maximum number of public meetings and road shows on all five seats, while in Congress too, Harish Rawat, who has the identity of a former CM to a national level leader, is also a star campaigner, but he Could not reach even once to campaign on two seats of Kumaon. Most of his time was spent in the Haridwar parliamentary seat held by his son Virendra Rawat.
Among other state level Congress leaders, only a few meetings of Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and State President Karan Mahara were also held. Many national leaders including PM Narendra Modi came to campaign for BJP candidates, but only National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came for Congress. No national leader of Congress could reach Almora seat.
Aim to deliver PM’s policies
In fact, Chief Minister Dhami also seems committed to taking the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people. PM had also said that the next decade will belong to Uttarakhand. The PM himself also pays special attention to the development policies of the state. In this election, the CM made every possible effort to convey the PM’s message.
