The government is going to take important steps in the direction of encouraging sports and sportspersons in the state. In this episode, Chief Secretary Dr. In a meeting chaired by SS Sandhu on Tuesday, it was decided that medal winners of Olympic, World Championship, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian and Commonwealth Games, SAF Games and National Games would be out of various positions in Group B and C. In the first phase, it was agreed to submit a proposal to the cabinet to appoint medal winning sportspersons by earmarking posts in police, sports, youth welfare, forest, education and transport departments.
The meeting also discussed about 4 percent horizontal reservation for sportspersons in direct recruitment posts in state services. It was decided that the Department of Personnel, after studying the rules and mandates applicable in this regard, would place a detailed proposal before the cabinet after obtaining advice from Finance.
In the meeting, it was also decided to give maximum 5 percent reservation to skilled players on seats in various courses of higher education and technical education. It was also agreed upon to organize special sports events and training camps during the summer vacations. Funds for this will be arranged through the Finance Department.
Excise Act will be amended for Cess:
In the past, the cabinet had decided to collect one rupee cess on each bottle of liquor and beer for the purpose of raising funds for sports, women’s welfare and cow protection. The Excise Department has also started the deduction, but the concerned departments have not yet received this amount.
In the meeting, discussion was held regarding taking this amount in the Sports Development Fund. It came to light that for this the Excise Act would have to be amended. On this, instructions were given to the Excise Department to present its proposal before the prepared cabinet.
There will be no acquisition of infrastructure facilities:
On this occasion, the Chief Secretary also inquired about the preparations for the 38th National Games to be held in the state and the infrastructure facilities created in this regard. It was emphasized in the meeting that these infrastructure facilities should not be acquired for the elections to be held in the coming days.
The Chief Secretary instructed to hold a meeting with the Election Commission in this regard. Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Special Principal Secretary Abhinav Kumar, Secretary Arvind Singh Hyanki, Dilip Jawalkar, Hari Chandra Semwal, Additional Secretary Anand Srivastava, Lalit Mohan Rayal, Jitendra Kumar Sonkar and officers of other departments were present in the meeting.

Consent will be taken from Finance to develop Ransi Stadium in Pauri as High Altitude Center.
A meeting will be held with the Forest Department for additional land for the establishment of a sports university at the Indira Gandhi International Sports Complex at Goalapar.
In Udham Singh Nagar, the utility of the land marked for the Women’s Sports College will be investigated.
